The Jailbird© Fish the fly deep, using split-shot and an indicator. Dead drift is the best technique. Make sure to mend you line. I like to fish it in broken or fast water, but it will also work in slow moving current. It immitates the caddis pupa or Mayfly emerging, but who cares as long as the fish hits it. I have had success with this pattern everywhere I have used it. It is a "go to" pattern for me. My clients and fishing friends have also found that it is the one pattern they can count to get stricks, when other flies are not working. I use: Any brand scud/shrimp/caddis hook, but I perfer Targus shrimp/scud/caddis hooks Size's 14 - 20 BWO Ultra-Fine dubbing by Universal Vice Red thread, any brand, but I use Uni-thread 6/ot Closed-cell foam in white. Tie on the white foam to create the gas bubble or wing caseing. start at the middle of hook and go forward toward the eye, tie it down, and bring it back towards the middle and ty it off. Start at the eye and dub thread thin with BWO dubbing and figure-eight around the foam, from below the foam and wrap back to the curve of the hook. then come back up the length of the hook with the thread, only , to create the rib. Tie it off. Head cement DONE Now ..go kick some fishy-Butt!
