Hi folks, I had an encounter at the Hatchery Hole of the Swift River, on the Belchertown/Ware line, on November 13th, 2009, and it was really bad. 2 spinning rod fisherman came down the hill, on the hatchery side and started casting bait into the "Big Hole", down from the pipe and narrow run. My client was fly fishing there, from the other side. I told the kids it was bad form to do that and fishing with worms was illegal. The shorter of the 2 (ages approx-20 - 27)wearing a light tan sailor/Gilligan hat started calling me a whore/pig/the "C" word/threatening me/telling me he's been fishing there for 15 years, twice a week (I've NEVER seen them there) however, another angler said he saw them last week and kicked them out for using bait. I called the number for the Environ Police but they left before he got there. There were a few witnesses to the verbal threats and abuse on the water. The kids left quickly, but not before throwing all their worms, into the tree line. The taller kid smoked Marlboros, looked 17 - 20yrs, fair hair and skin, slender, approx 5'10 - 6ft approx 160- 175lbs, wore what looked to be a long army jacket. He said nothing, but looked nervous. The shorter guy who was spewing venom, besides the sailor hat, was approx 5'6 - 5'8, stocky, but not fat, approx 165 -190 dark hair, and features, compared to his friend and wore polarized glasses. He may have been wearing a similar jacket. As they left, the shorter guy threatened me again, as he was doing that, the guy form the Hatchery was leaving from working in the compressor building, and heard this kid yelling at me and called them over. Not sure what the guys told him, but he said something and they left. They walk north on the Hatchery side, as if to leave. They may have had a car parked on the West side of river, across from RT 9 parking Road (Enoch something) However they may also have crossed the river up to the Parking lot where we park to fish the hatchery hole, If they parked there. I went up to check on my car and I saw the guys taking off...I got to my car and 3 of my tires were slashed and flat. Thank goodness I had roadside service and flat-bedded my car to Warehouse tire. The tires came to 272.00 Installed. Also Called State PD and filed report. If anyone has seen these creeps, talked to them, seen their car (color, state, kind) or know their names or the town they live in, anything at all, Please please please call State police barrack at Quabbin, at 413-323-7561 If anyone finds these kids and there is an arrest made, I will be honored to guide you and a friend on anyone of the rivers I use.
